The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team had their first home match of the 2022 season on Tuesday, August 30th.\u00a0 The Cardinals hosted the Oldham-Ramona\/Rutland Raiders, and the Raiders got the 3-1 win by scores of 30-28, 22-25, 25-22, and 26-24.<\/p>\n

Set 1:\u00a0 Raiders 30, Cardinals 28<\/h5>\n

The entire match was back and forth all night long.\u00a0 The Raiders took an early 7-4 lead in the opening set.\u00a0 The Cardinals went on an 8-0 run for a 12-7 lead.\u00a0 ORR got the score tied 14-14 and then went ahead 18-14.\u00a0 St Mary battled to tie the score 22-22.\u00a0 The two teams then went back-and-forth trading points and advantages.\u00a0 St Mary held a 28-27 lead, but the Raiders scored three in a row to take the first set.<\/p>\n

Set 2:\u00a0 Cardinals 25, Raiders 22<\/h5>\n

The second set continued to be a close battle to start.\u00a0 The teams traded points, and the score was tied 6-6.\u00a0 The Cardinals then went on a 7-1 run to build a 13-6 lead.\u00a0 The Raiders were never able to get closer than three points, and the Cardinals won the second set 25-22.<\/p>\n

Set 3:\u00a0 Raiders 25, Cardinals 22<\/h5>\n

Again the start of the third set was back-and-forth as the score was tied 7-7.\u00a0 The Cardinals scored the next three points for a small 10-7 lead.\u00a0 The lead grew to 15-11 before the Raiders went on a run.\u00a0 ORR got the score tied at 17-17, and they then went ahead 22-18.\u00a0 St Mary pulled within a point at 23-22, but ORR scored the final two points to win the set.<\/p>\n

Set 4:\u00a0 Raiders 26, Cardinals 24<\/h5>\n

St Mary looked to be headed towards forcing a fifth set.\u00a0 After the Cardinals led 11-10, they pushed their lead to 16-11.\u00a0 The Raiders closed the gap to one, 17-16 after a 5-1 scoring run.\u00a0 St Mary pushed the lead back to five points, 23-18, and also was at set-point, 24-21.\u00a0 The Raiders, however, went on a 5-0 run and stole the fourth set 26-24 to win the match.<\/p>\n

Ella Griffin finished with 11 kills, six digs, and two ace serves.\u00a0 Maya Heinitz had 10 kills, 11 digs, and five aces.\u00a0 Brianna Griffin added nine kills, five digs, a block, and an ace serve.\u00a0 Jaycee Tebay had seven kills and three blocks.\u00a0 Brianna Lindeman finished with 32 set assists, eight digs, and three ace serves.\u00a0 Josie Baumberger had a team-high 25 digs along with an ace.\u00a0 Madala Hanson finished with 11 digs and two ace serves.\u00a0 Whitney Warwick also had 10 digs.<\/p>\n
