The Beresford Post 72 Jr Legion baseball team split two games on Sunday, June 15th. They defeated Post 15 East Jr Legion but fell to Yankton Post 12 Jr Legion.
Beresford 11, Post 15 East 10
A ninth-inning run lead to Beresford getting the extra-inning win over Post 15 East. The two teams went back and forth all game long. Post 15 scored a run in the bottom of the first for an early 1-0 lead. Beresford scored four times in the top of the third, but Post 15 tied the game 4-4 with three in the bottom of the inning. Beresford continued to rally and scored five times in the top of the fourth for a 9-4 lead. Post 15 got one run back in the bottom of the fourth. The score remained 9-5 until the top of the seventh. Beresford scored a run to extend their lead to 10-5. Post 15, however, rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, 10-10, to go into extra innings. Hogen Hybertson had the game-winning RBI single in the top of the ninth to put Beresford ahead 11-10.
Kasen Voss had three hits and an RBI. Hybertson had two hits with an RBI. Tucker Martz finished with two hits. Evan Haak had a double with three RBIs. Ashton Oberle ended with a single and two RBIs. Ethan Bobzin, Ian Henderson, and Lucas Anderson all had one hit each.
Yankton 5, Beresford 0
Yankton scored four runs in the first three innings to lead them to the win. They scored two in the bottom of the first and two in the bottom of the third for a 4-0 lead. Yankton would add one more run in the bottom of the fifth. Beresford was held to just two hits in the game.
Bobzin and Oberle each had a single. Voss pitched all six innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on eight hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
