The Beresford Watchdog softball team hosted a softball tournament on Saturday, May 3rd. The Watchdogs took second place, getting wins over Centerville and Parker, but fell to West Central.
Beresford 18, Centerville 0
The first game ended in three innings as the Watchdogs scored seven times in the bottom of the first and 11 more in the second. Rylie Laurvick pitched all three innings without allowing a hit with two walks and four strikeouts.
Ivy Keiser had a triple and a double with three RBIs. Kennedy Merrigan and Laurvick both had a double with two RBIs each. Reese Olson and Keely Merrigan both had a home run and an RBI. Karley Koth had a single, and Ashlynn Olson had an RBI.
Beresford 10, Parker 0
The Watchdogs held Parker to just one hit in a 10-0 win. The Watchdogs got a run in the bottom of the first. After a scoreless second inning, Beresford scored six times in the bottom of the third and three more in the bottom of the fourth.
Koth had a home run and triple with four RBIs. Keely Merrigan had a triple with an RBI. Keiser had a double with an RBI. Brynlee Mohning had a double and a single. Kennedy Merrigan and Seivert both had a single with an RBI. R. Olson added a triple. Mohning pitched five innings and allowed a hit and two walks with eight strikeouts.
West Central 5, Beresford 3
A late Watchdog rally fell short against the Trojans. West Central got a run in the bottom of the second for an early 1-0 lead. They added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the fifth to extend their lead to 5-0. Beresford scored three times in the top of the sixth. R. Olson had a one-out double in the top of the seventh, but the Trojans stopped any potential rally.
R. Olson had two doubles in the game. Keely Merrigan had a double and two RBIs. Keiser finished with a single. Laurvick pitched four innings and allowed three earned runs on seven hits and a walk with a strikeout. Mohning threw two innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and a walk with a strikeout.
