The Beresford Watchdogs played four games in Sioux Center, IA at the American State Bank Sports Complex on Saturday, May 29th. Beresford earned wins over Flandreau, Sioux Valley, and Sioux Falls Christian before falling to West Central.
Beresford 3, Flandreau 0
The Watchdogs got two runs in the bottom of the first after Keely Merrigan scored on a wild pitch and Tavyn Valder had an RBI single. Keely Merrigan had an RBI ground out in the bottom of the second to push the lead to 3-0. That’s all the Watchdogs needed as they held Flandreau scoreless.
Keely Merrigan and Valder each had a single and an RBI. Kennedy Merrigan, Harley Koth, and Brynlee Mohning all had one hit each. Rylie Laurvick pitched five innings and allowed three hits and one walk with 11 strikeouts.
Beresford 3, Sioux Valley 0
The Watchdogs broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Mohning. Keely and Kennedy Merrigan both scored on an error in the bottom of the sixth to pad the Beresford lead to 3-0.
Mohning finished with a single and an RBI. Keely Merrigan, Capri Mullinix, Vallder, and Lily Seivert all had one single each. Reese Olson also had an RBI. Mohning pitched all seven innings and allowed four hits and a walk with 10 strikeouts.
Beresford 12, Sioux Falls Christian 2
Beresford put runs on the board in all four innings of the game in a 12-2 win over Sioux Falls Christian. They scored two in the bottom of the first. The Watchdogs had a big six-run second and then added a run in the third for a 9-0 lead. The Chargers scored twice in the top of the fourth, but Beresford added three in the bottom of the inning to go ahead 12-2. The Chargers were held scoreless in the top of the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.
Valder led the offense with three hits and two RBIs. Koth had two hits and two RBIs. Mulilnix added a single with three RBIs. Keely Merrigan had a single and two RBIs. Kennedy Merrigan and Ivy Keiser each had a hit and an RBI. R. Olson had a single, and Ashlynn Olson had an RBI. Laurvick threw five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and a walk with 11 strikeouts.
West Central 10, Beresford 0
The Trojans scored five runs in the top of the first to set the tone. They added three more runs in the top of the second for an 8-0 lead. West Central would score two more times in the top of the fifth while holding Beresford to just two hits.
R. Olson had a double, and Kennedy Merrigan had a single. Laurvick threw 1/3 of an inning and allowed five runs, two earned, on three hits and a walk with one strikeout. Mohning pitched one inning and allowed two earned runs on two hits and a walk. Kennedy Merrigan threw 3 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
