The Beresford Watchdog boys held off a late rally by the Lac Qui Parle Valley Eagles to get a 68-64 win at the DVC Border Battle in Colman on Saturday, January 18th.
Most of the game was back and forth with neither team getting a big lead. The Watchdogs held an 18-14 advantage after the first quarter. They maintained their four-point lead at halftime, 37-33. The third quarter was played close as well. Beresford had 52-47 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Watchdogs were able to finally get some separation in the fourth quarter. They extended their lead to 63-52. The Eagles, however, rallied and got within two points, 66-64, late in the game. Malachi James sealed the win with two free throws in the closing seconds.
Four players finished in double figures for the Watchdogs. James had 21 points and five rebounds. Cooper Nelson finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Aidan Hamm added 16 points and four rebounds. Tiegen Nyhaug ended with 14 points and two rebounds.
