The Beresford Watchdog volleyball team played a close match against the Yankton Gazelles on Monday, October 21st. Yankton won the match in four sets by scores of 26-28, 25-12, 32-30, and 25-22.
The Gazelles started the match with 7-3 run. They extended that lead to eight points, 12-4. Yankton stayed in the lead to a 19-14 score. Beresford started chipping away at the lead and got within three 23-20. The Watchdogs continued their run and tied the score 24-24. The set was tied again 25-25 and 26-26. Beresford scored the final two points for a 28-26 win.
Yankton started the second set with a 4-3 lead. They extended the lead to 8-5, but then went on a 7-2 run to extend the lead to 15-7. The Gazelle kept going the lead throughout the remainder of the set to a 25-12 win. Beresford put that set behind them and started the third set on a 5-0 run. They grew the lead to eight points, 13-5. The Watchdogs continued to lead 16-10, but Yankton then started to rally. The Gazelles cut the lead to 19-16 and then tied the set 20-20. Yankton continued their rally and took a 23-21 lead. The Watchdogs were able to fight back and tie the score 24-24. The two teams went back and forth and remained tied 30-30. Yankton was able to secure the final two points for a 32-30 win.
The fourth set began with a 2-2 tie. Yankton pulled in front 6-5 and extended the lead to 13-9. Beresford got within a point, 13-12, and then tied the score 15-15. The Gazelles went back in front 18-17 and then pushed the advantage to 21-18. They were able to maintain that three-point lead to a 25-22 win.
