Watchdogs Win Two of Three at Big East Tournament

The Beresford Watchdog volleyball team won two of three matches at the Big East Tournament held on Thursday, September 12th and Saturday, September 14th.

Beresford played two matches on Thursday in Baltic.  They faced Sioux Valley and Flandreau.  In the opening round, the Cossacks took the win in straight sets by scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 28-26.  The match with the Fliers went five sets.  The first set was a long one with the Fliers winning 32-30.  Flandreau also won the second set 25-19 for a 2-0 lead.  Beresford stayed alive with a 25-22 win.  They forced a fifth set after winning the fourth set in extra points, 26-24.  The Watchdogs kept the momentun going and took their third set 15-9 for the match win.

Beresford then traveled to Salem for the final round of the Big East Tournament on Saturday.  The Watchdogs faced the host team, McCook Central/Montrose.  The match was close in all five sets.  Beresford took the first set 25-23.  The Cougars evened the match with a 25-21 win in the second set.  The third set also went to the Cougars by a score of 25-23.  The Watchdogs needed extra points in the fourth set, but they were able to tie the match 2-2 after a 27-25 fourth set win.  Beresford then would win the fifth set 15-12 to take the match win 3-2.
