The Beresford Watchdogs had their first home football game of the season on Friday, September 6th. The Watchdogs hosted the McCook Central/Montrose Cougars with the Cougars taking the win 20-6.
The entire game was a tough defensive battle. The Fighting Cougars got a two-yard touchdown run by Jackson Schmidt early in the first half. Beresford also got a score on a quarterback keeper up the middle by Ashton Oberle. A made extra point gave the Watchdogs a 7-6 lead.
McCook Central/Montrose took the lead late in the second quarter. Ben Wiebersick connected with Mason Sabers on a seven-yard touchdown pass. A made two-point conversion put the Fighting Cougars ahead 14-6 going into halftime.
Neither team scored for the majoring of the second half. Both defenses held tough. McCook Central/Montrose put the game out of reach on a two-yard run by Schmidt late in the fourth quarter to make the score 20-6.
