Post 72 Jr Legion Finishes 4th at State Tournament

Post 72 Jr Legion took fourth place at the 2024 State B tournament in Groton held Friday, August 9th through Sunday, August 11th.

Post 72 CBAH 6, W.I.N. 4

In the opening round of the tournament, Post 72 erased a 3-0 lead to get a 6-4 victory over Warner/Ipswich/Northville (W.I.N.).  W.I.N. broke a scoreless tie with a three-run bottom of the third for a 3-0 lead.  Post 72 got a run in the top of the fourth and another in the top of the fifth to make the score 3-2.  They took the lead with two runs in the top of the sixth and then added two more in the seventh for a 6-3 lead.  W.I.N. got one run in the bottom of the seventh.

Tommy Walth had two hits, including a double, with two RBIs.  Aiden Bobzin also had two singles.  Noah Schoenfelder had a single and an RBI.  Alec Austin finished with a double, and Miles Eide had two RBIs.  Tucker Martz also had an RBI.  A. Bobzin pitched five of the seven innings allowing three earned runs on five hits and five walks with 10 strikeouts.

Winner/Colome 7, Post 72 CBAH 5

In the semifinal round on Saturday, Winner/Colome scored five runs in the bottom of the first and another in the second for an early 6-0 lead.  Post 72 scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings to make the score 6-2.  Winner/Colome added to their lead, 7-2, with a run in the bottom of the fifth.  Post 72 tried to rally late in the game.  They scored a run in the top of the sixth and two more in the seventh, but the rally fell short.

Eide finished with three hits, one of them a triple, and two RBIs.  Martz had two hits and an RBI.  Evan Haak added a double with an RBI.  A. Bobzin, Austin, and Schoenfelder all had one hit each.  Ashton Oberle had an RBI.  Kasen Voss pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed five runs, three earned, on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts.  Ethan Bobzin threw 3 1/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts.  Haak tossed two innings and allowed an unearned run on a hit and two walks with one strikeout.

Martin 15, Post 72 CBAH 7

In the 3rd/4th place game on Sunday, Martin used three big innings for the win.  They scored seven times in the top of the first inning.  Post 72 got two runs back in the bottom of the second.  The score remained 7-2 until the top of the sixth.  Both teams scored four runs in the sixth inning making the score 11-6.  Martin added another four-run inning in the top of the seventh for a 15-6 score.  Post 72 scored just one run in the bottom of the seventh.

Oberle had a single with two RBIs.  Jax Fickbohm had a double and an RBI.  A. Bobzin, Martz, and Voss all had a single with an RBI.  Schoenfelder, Austin, and Walth all had one hit each.
