Black Sox 14U Finishes Third at State A Tournament

The Beresford/Alcester-Hudson (BAH) Black Sox hosted the 2024 South Dakota VFW 14U State A Tournament on Friday, July 26th through Sunday, July 28th.  The Black Sox finished third at the tournament.

BAH Black Sox 14, Dell Rapids 9

The Black Sox overcame an early deficit to earn an opening round win over Dell Rapids on Friday.  Both teams scored a run in the first inning.  Dell Rapids took the lead with a run in the second and then added four more in the top of third for a 6-1 lead.  The Black Sox scored five times in the bottom of the inning too tie the game 6-6.

Dell Rapids regained the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth.  BAH got one run back in the bottom of the inning, and after four innings of play, Dell Rapids led 8-7.  The Black Sox took the lead, 12-8, with five runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Dell Rapids cut the lead to 12-9 with a run in the sixth, but the Black Sox scored two more times in the bottom of the inning.

Liam Moumy had three hits and three RBIs.  Evan Rosheim also had three hits with two RBIs.  Maxwell Kinney added two doubles and an RBI.  Ian Henderson finished with two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Karzen Sommervold also had two hits.  Benjamin Seeley, John Savey, and Alex Adams all had one hit each.  Cameron Mullinix had an RBI.

Madison 17, BAH Black Sox 0

BAH took on Madison in the semifinals on Saturday.  Madison scored two runs in the top of the first inning for a 2-0 lead.  After a scoreless second inning, Madison put 15 runs on the board in the top of the third inning.  The game ended after three innings of play.

Savey and Sommervold both had one hit each.

BAH Black Sox 13, Elk Point-Jefferson 7

The Black Sox earned a come-from-behind win to take third place over Elk Point-Jefferson on Sunday.  BAH did hold a 4-0 lead after the first inning of play.  Elk Point-Jefferson responded with six runs in the top of the second for a 6-4 lead.  The Black Sox scored a run in the bottom of the second and then tied the game 6-6 with another run in the third.  They took the lead, 7-6, with a run in the bottom of the fourth.  BAH delivered the big blow of six runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead 13-6.  Elk Point-Jefferson got one more run in the sixth.

Savey finished with two hits and two RBIs.  Henderson also had two hits with an RBI.  Kinney had a triple with three RBIs.  Mason Hofer and Adams both had a triple and an RBI.  Mullinix also had a triple.  Moumy, Roesheim, and Sommervold all had one hit each.  Botson Jensen added an RBI.
