The Beresford Watchdog softball team hosted a tournament in Sioux City on Saturday, March 23rd. Beresford finished the tournament with a 2-1 record.
Madison 6, Beresford 0
The Bulldogs broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the fifth inning with six runs in their 6-0 win over Beresford. The Watchdogs were held to just one hit in the game. Halle Livingston had a single. Rylie Laurvick pitched all five innings and allowed six runs, but all of them unearned, on six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.
Beresford 15, Flandreau 6
The Watchdog offense found their groove in their game against Flandreau. They scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning. The Fliers scored two runs in the bottom of the inning for an 11-2 score. Beresford got another run in the top of the second. The score remained 12-2 until the top of the fourth inning. The Watchdogs scored a run in the fourth and two more in the top of the fifth for a 15-2 lead. Flandreau scored four times in the bottom of the fifth.
Ivy Keiser had three hits, one a double, and five RBIs. Keely Merrigan also had three hits, including a double, with four RBIs. Kennedy Merrigan had two doubles and two RBIs. Lily Seivert had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Tavyn Valder finished with a single, and Capri Mullinix had an RBI. Keely Merrigan pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Kate Degen pitched two innings and allowed four runs, two earned, on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Beresford 4, Bon Homme 1
The Watchdogs broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run bottom of the fourth inning in their 4-1 win over Bon Homme. Both teams scored a single run in the second inning.
Kennedy Merrigan had a triple and single with two RBIs. Kaylee Ivarsen had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Keely Merrigan had a double, and Livingston had a single. Laurvick pitched two innings and allowed an earned run on a hit and walk with five strikeouts. Kennedy Merrigan pitched three innings and allowed one hit and two walks with three strikeouts.
