The Beresford Watchdog volleyball team made the road trip to Montrose to play the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars on Thursday, September 14th. The Fighting Cougars won the match in four sets by scores of 25-23, 14-25, 25-23, and 25-20.
After a 3-3 tie to start the opening set, McCook Central/Montrose slowly built a 15-9 lead. They continued to lead by four to five points until Beresford made a run. The Watchdogs cut the lead to 20-18 and were within a point, 24-23, but the Fighting Cougars held for the 25-23 win. Beresford got on a roll in the second. Leading by just a point 5-4, the Watchdogs when on a 7-1 run for a 12-5 lead. The lead extended to 20-11 as Beresford took the win 25-14.
The third set started with a 3-3 tie. Beresford then went on a 6-1 run for a 9-4 lead. The lead was 16-10 before McCook Central/Montrose went on a 6-0 run to tie the score 16-16. The score was tied again at 20-20, but the Fighting Cougars got the 25-23 win. McCook Central/Montrose had the early lead in the fourth set, 5-2. Beresford tied the game 7-7 only to see the Fighting Cougars go back in front 11-7. The Watchdogs again tied the score 15-15. McCook Central/Montrose went on a 7-3 run for 22-18 lead and stayed in front to the 25-20 win.
