Watchdog Softball Drops Two to Dakota Valley

The Beresford Watchdog softball team lost both games of a double-header against the Dakota Valley Panthers on Friday, April 7th.  The Watchdogs lost by scores of 2-9 and 1-16 in North Sioux City.

Dakota Valley 9, Beresford 2

The Watchdogs got two runs in the top of the first inning on steals of home by Tavyn Valder and Keely Merrigan.  The Panthers responded with four runs in the bottom of the first for a 4-2 lead.  Dakota Valley added a run in the second, two in the third, and two in the fourth in the 9-2 win.

Valder had a double in the game.  Brenna Dann also had a double.  Merrigan ended with a single.  Dann pitched four innings allowing nine earned runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts.

Dakota Valley 11, Beresford 1

The Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the first for an early 2-0 lead in the second game.  Beresford cut the lead in half after an RBI single by Jaiden Johnson in the top of the second inning.  Dakota Valley put up nine runs in the bottom of the second to go ahead 11-1.  They scored five more in the third to end the game on the 15-run rule.

Johnson had a single and an RBI.  Lily Seivert also had a single.  Dann pitched one inning allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Kate Degen pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing seven earned runs on five hits and three walks with a strikeout.  Merrigan pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing seven earned runs on four hits and three walks with a strikeout.
