Beresford/Alcester-Hudson Baseball Drops Three to Start Season

The Beresford/Alcester Hudson Black Sox high school baseball team has been able to play three games to start the 2023 club season.  The Black Sox played two games on Sunday, April 2nd and then one more on Monday, April 3rd.

Centerville 13, Beresford/Alcester-Hudson 3

Centerville built an 8-0 lead after they were done hitting in the top of the fourth inning on Sunday.  The Black Sox cut the lead to 8-2 after a two-run bottom of the fourth.  Centerville, however, added five more runs over the next two innings while the Black Sox were only able to get one more run in the bottom of the sixth.

Joseph Anderson had a double for the Black Sox.  Ashton Oberle had a hit and an RBI.  Jace Adams and Dominic Van Egdom both had a single in the game.  Ethan Bovill took the loss pitching three innings allowing three unearned runs on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Kasen Voss pitched two innings and allowed six unearned runs on three hits and three walks with a strikeout.  Landen Kroger pitched one inning and allowed four earned runs on four hits and two walks.

Madison 8, Beresford/Alcester-Hudson 0

In the second game of the day on Sunday, the Black Sox were held to just one hit and were shutout by Madison 8-0.  Madison scored a run in the first, two in the second, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two more in the seventh inning.

Van Egdom had the only hit for the Black Sox.  Conner Latendresse took the loss pitching three innings while allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Robert Watkins pitched three innings and allowed three runs, on earned, on two hits and four walks with four strikeouts.  Van Egdom pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed two earned runs on a hit and walk with two strikeouts.  Ben Seeley pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up a hit and two walks while recording a strikeout.

Canton 11, Beresford/Alcester-Hudson 10

Beresford/Alcester-Hudson nearly completed a comeback against Canton on Monday.  Canton led 4-0 going into the bottom of the second inning.  The Black Sox scored three times in the second to cut the lead to 4-3.  Canton responded with three more runs over the next two innings to lead 7-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth.  Beresford/Alcester-Hudson got two more runs in their fourth inning to trail 7-5.  The Black Sox briefly took the lead after scoring four times in the bottom of the sixth.  Beresford/Alcester-Hudson led 9-7 going into the seventh inning, but Canton score four times in the top half of the inning for an 11-9 lead.  The Black Sox only scored one run in the bottom of the seventh to fall 11-10.

Anderson and Voss both had two singles and an RBI each.  Cooper Nelson also collected two hits.  Adams had a double and an RBI.  Bovill and Watkins each had a single and an RBI.  Jax Fickbohm added a double.  Anderson pitched three innings in the loss allowing four runs, none of them earned, on one hit and three walks with three strikeouts.  Oberle pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed an earned run on a hit and three walks.  Fickbohm pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed six earned runs on three hits and seven walks with three strikeouts.
