Beresford Falls to Dell Rapids in First High School Softball Game

The Beresford Watchdogs and the Dell Rapids Quarriers played in one of the first high school softball games in South Dakota on Tuesday, March 28th.  The two teams traveled to Sioux Center, IA to play the game at the Dordt Dome.  Dell Rapids won the game 11-1 after five innings.

The Quarriers built a seven-run lead after the first two innings.  Dell Rapids scored three times in the top of the first inning and then added four more in the second inning.  After a scoreless third inning, Dell Rapids added two runs in the top of the fourth and two more in the top of the fifth.  Beresford got their lone run in the bottom of the fifth on a ground ball by Kate Degen.

The Watchdogs had five hits in the game.  Keely Merrigan had three hits, two of those doubles.  Degen and Brenna Dann both had a single.  Merrigan pitched the first two innings allowing seven earned runs on six hits and five walks with a strikeout.  Dann pitched three innings and allowed four earned runs on four hits and a walk with a strikeout.
