The Beresford Watchdogs girls basketball team took the lead in the fourth quarter, but the Sioux Valley Cossacks made a run for a 60-54 victory on Tuesday, December 20th.
The Cossacks took a quick lead in the first quarter and led 18-9 at the break. Beresford spent the next two quarters chipping away at that lead. The Watchdogs cut the lead down to five points by halftime, 35-30. They eventually tied the game 40-40 with 2:50 to play in the third quarter. Sioux Valley ended the quarter with a one point lead, 45-44. Beresford scored the first basket of the fourth quarter to go ahead 46-45 with 7:45 to play. The Cossacks, however, went on a 9-0 run to go ahead 54-46. That run was enough to keep them in front the rest of the game.
Harley Koth had 14 points and four rebounds. Ella Merriman finished with nine points and five rebounds. Irelyn Fichbohm had eight points and five rebounds, and Savanna Beesen had eight points and three rebounds. Lilly Sievert ended with seven points, and Kendra Ellis had six points.
