{"id":808,"date":"2023-08-23T12:22:25","date_gmt":"2023-08-23T17:22:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bigsiouxmedia.com\/alcester-hudson\/?p=808"},"modified":"2023-08-25T11:03:15","modified_gmt":"2023-08-25T16:03:15","slug":"cubs-win-first-volleyball-match-of-season-in-five-sets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bigsiouxmedia.com\/alcester-hudson\/2023\/08\/23\/cubs-win-first-volleyball-match-of-season-in-five-sets\/","title":{"rendered":"Cubs Win First Volleyball Match of Season in Five Sets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-245\" src=\"https:\/\/bigsiouxmedia.com\/alcester-hudson\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Alcester-HudsonCubs-1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"96\" height=\"96\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bigsiouxmedia.com\/alcester-hudson\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Alcester-HudsonCubs-1.png 96w, https:\/\/bigsiouxmedia.com\/alcester-hudson\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Alcester-HudsonCubs-1-80x80.png 80w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 96px) 100vw, 96px\" \/>The Alcester-Hudson Cubs hosted the Menno Wolves to start the volleyball season on Tuesday, August 22nd.\u00a0 The Cubs won their first home match in five sets by scores of 16-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-15, and 15-10.<\/p>\n<p>Alcester-Hudson got out to a quick 5-1 lead.\u00a0 Menno then put together an 11-0 run for a 12-5 lead.\u00a0 The Cubs got within three points, 16-13, but the Wolves ended the first set on a 9-3 run for a 25-16 win.\u00a0 Alcester-Hudson got out to another fast start in the second set.\u00a0 They led 7-1 and then extended that lead to 14-4.\u00a0 Menno got within six, 14-8, but that was as close as they would get.\u00a0 The Cubs took the second set 25-15.<\/p>\n<p>The third set went back and fourth for most of the game.\u00a0 The two teams were tied 8-8 and then again 13-13.\u00a0 Menno pulled away late by a score of 20-14.\u00a0 Alcester-Hudson got within two, 20-18, but the Wolves took the win 25-21.\u00a0 Another quick start by the Cubs put them in the driver&#8217;s seat for the fourth set.\u00a0 They started with a 9-3 lead and slowly built on it throughout the set.\u00a0 They led 20-12, 23-14 and then took the win 25-15 to force a fifth set.<\/p>\n<p>The Cubs rode the momentum of the fourth set into the fifth and final set.\u00a0 They started with a 6-0 run.\u00a0 Menno got within three points, 8-5, but the Cubs didn&#8217;t let them get any closer.\u00a0 They pulled away 12-6 and eventually won the set, and the match, 15-10.<\/p>\n<p>Alexis Gray had 19 kills, 10 digs, three blocks, and two ace serves.\u00a0 Elly Doering finished with seven kills, five digs, and three blocks.\u00a0 Devin Hongslo had six kills.\u00a0 Carly Patrick added five kills, four ace serves, and three digs.\u00a0 Hannah Ahart had 29 set assists, 21 digs, and six ace serves.\u00a0 Jenna Manning finished with 20 digs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Alcester-Hudson Cubs hosted the Menno Wolves to start the volleyball season on Tuesday, August 22nd.\u00a0 The Cubs won their first home match in five sets by scores of 16-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-15, and 15-10.
