The Alcester-Hudson Cubs took second place in the 2023 South Dakota High School State B Softball Tournament on Saturday, June 3rd. The Castlewood Warriors scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to win the title 3-2 over the Cubs. Alcester-Hudson’s inaugural high school softball season ends with a 14-2 record.
The Warriors took the lead, 1-0, with a run in the bottom of the first. They added another run in the bottom of the third and led 2-0 after three innings of play. Sarah Ebert put the Cubs on the board with an RBI double in the top of the fourth. Paxtyn Moller added an RBI single in the top of the fifth to tie the game 2-2. The game-winning run for the Warriors came on a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
Ella Serck had three hits in the game, one of the a double. Elly Doering had two singles. Ebert had a double and an RBI. P. Moller had a single and an RBI. Emma Moller and Jenna Manning both had one hit each. E. Moller pitched seven innings allowing three earned runs on seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.
