Cubs Softball Earns Pair of Wins

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs softball team played two games in Hurley on Tuesday, May 14th.  They played Elkton-Lake Benton and Viborg-Hurley, winning both games.

After two innings of scoreless play, the Cubs scored three times in the top of the third for a lead they would not lose.  The Elks scored a run in the bottom of the third, but Alcester-Hudson answered with two more runs in the top of the fourth.

Elly Doering had two singles and an RBI.  Jenna Manning also had two hits.  Emma Solberg, Paxtyn Moller, and Delta Pies all had one hit each.  Emma Moller added an RBI.  E. Moller pitched five innings and allowed one earned run on one hit and two walks with 12 strikeouts.

Alcester-Hudson 5, Viborg-Hurley 4

The Cubs fought to tie the game and then win in extra innings against the Cougars.  The Cubs scored the first two runs in the bottom of the first.  Viborg-Hurley got all four of their runs in the top of the second for a 4-2 lead.  Alcester-Hudson got one run back in the bottom of the second.  After two innings of play, the Cougars led 4-3.

The score remained 4-3 until the bottom of the fifth.  With the bases loaded and one out, Alexis Gray drew a walk to tie the game 4-4.  The rally, however, was stopped there, and the game went into extra innings.  The Cubs set down Viborg-Hurley in order in the top of the sixth.  With two outs and the bases loaded, Jaeley Christensen drew a game-winning walk.

Doering had a single and an RBI.  Pies finished with a double.  E. Moller and Sarah Ebert both had a single.  P. Moller, Christensen, and Gray all had an RBI.  E. Moller threw six innings and allowed four earned runs on three hits and five walks with 13 strikeouts.
