Cubs Volleyball Remains Unbeaten

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs volleyball team stayed unbeaten after a straight set win at home against the Scotland Highlanders on Tuesday, August 29th.  The Cubs won by scores of 26-24, 25-19, and 25-18.

The Highlanders started the match with a 5-2 lead in the first set.  The Cubs pulled within a point a few times and were within a point again at 13-12.  Scotland scored the next four points to lead 17-12.  They continued to lead, 23-17, but that’s when the Cubs gained momentum. Alcester-Hudson stormed back to tie the score 23-23.  After a 24-24 tie, the Cubs scored the final two points for a 26-24 win.

The momentum carried over to the early part of set two.  The Cubs started out on a 4-1 run.  Scotland was able to finally tie the score 14-14 and again at 17-17.  Alcester-Hudson rallied again with a 6-0 run for a 23-17 lead.  That led to a 25-19 win in the second set.  The Highlights tried to take the momentum in the third set by starting with a 4-1 run.  The Cubs answered with a 4-1 run of their own for a 5-5 tie.  The set was tied again at 9-9.  Alcester-Hudson went ahead 15-11.  From there they outscored Scotland 10-7 for the win.

Elly Doering had seven kills, four digs, and an ace serve.  Emma Moller also had seven. kills with three digs and an ace.  Carly Patrick added five kills, four digs, and two ace serves.  Alexis Gray had five kills, 10 digs, and four ace serves.  Hannah Ahart tallied 23 set assists, seven digs, and an ace. Jenna Manning finished with 10 digs.
