The Tri-Valley Mustang football team played their first road game of the season on Friday, September 25th. They traveled to Dell Rapids to take on the Quarriers. The Quarrier defense was too much as Dell Rapids won the game 20-0.
The Mustangs kept the game within a score for three quarter after Dell Rapids scored with 7:58 to play in the first quarter. The Quarriers led 7-0 at halftime, and the score remained 7-0 after three quarters of play. Dell Rapids then scored with 11:25 to play in the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 13-0. Dell Rapids then capitalized on a fumble recovery and scored again with 8:58 to play to push the lead to 20-0.
Tri-Valley just couldn’t get any offensive rhythm going in the game. The Mustangs longest drive of the game lasted just six plays, and that drive happened late in the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs were held to just 39 total yards of offense, 27 rushing yards and 12 passing yards. They had a total of just three first downs and turned the ball over two times.
Mason Mathieu was 3-5 passing for 12 yards. Nick Haas had a catch for seven yards, and Bryce Kienast had a catch for six yards. Levi Hanson led the ground attack with eight carries for 20 yards. Jaden Siemonsma had eight carries for 16 yards. Tyson Van Der Vliet and Isaac McFarland both had seven tackles each. Siemonsma, Mathieu, Owen Snethen, and Connor Christensen all had five tackles each. Colt Blake had three sacks in the game.
Tri-Valley (1-3) will host Sioux Falls Christian on Friday, October 2nd.
