Nadine A. Mikel, age 82, of Madison, died Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery with Military Honors by the Madison American Legion and VFW. The family will be present for visitation 4-6 pm Friday at Ellsworth Funeral Home. Nadine A. Robson was born on November 15, 1934 to Glen and Pearl (Bryan) Robson. She attended Madison High School where she graduated in 1953. Following graduation, she enlisted in the US Army and served as a Corporal and received Medical Technician Training from 1954-1956 during the Korean War. Nadine then attended the Methodist School of Nursing in Mitchell, SD, where she graduated in 1963. She married Joyce Mikel on March 6, 1965, at Madison. Nadine’s career consisted of many duties involving nursing. Her longest nursing position was as a staff nurse at the Madison Community Hospital where she worked for 30 years. Nadine was an avid doll collector. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Doll Lovers Club, Retired Nurses Assn. and Writers, INC, even having a poem published in “Great Poems of Today” entitled “Caring”. She received many awards including; Gene Haug Award for best bedside nurse from the Methodist School of Nursing, District Nurse of the Year from the SD Nurses Association, WAC of the Month from Ft. Benning, GA, and Employee of the Month from Madison Community Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, on January 23, 2000, one sister, Evelyn Edwards, and two brothers-in-law Vernon Lebahn and Dawson Priestman, one niece and one nephew.
Survivors include her brother, Ronald (Janet) Robson of Madison; four sisters, Arlea Lebahn of Fremont, NE, Marie Priestman of Flagstaff, AZ, Nina (Dick) Dressen of Dell Rapids, and Bonnie (Lowell) Miller of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law, Bulah Steinberg of Madison; brother-in-law, Harold Edwards of Vermillion; special niece, Cindy (David) Lias of Vermillion; and several other nieces and nephews.
