Elks Stop Cardinals Win Streak

DRSM LogoThe Elkton-Lake Benton Elks ended the three-match winning streak of the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals on Thursday, September 20th in Elkton.  The Elks defeated the Cardinals in straight sets by scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-22.

Cassie Mullaney led the team in kills with seven in the match.  Both Maddie Schwebach and Veronica Beck had six kills each.  Tyra Harrington finished with two kills.  Ella Heinitz had 18 set assists, while Paige Bunkers had nine set assists.  Schwebach tallied two blocks defensively for St Mary.  Carly Maxwell played a solid back row with 13 digs.  Macie Brown added 10 digs.  Courtney Brown had seven digs.

St Mary (6-6) will travel to Baltic to play the Bulldogs on Tuesday, September 25th.

Cardinals Hold off Tigers in Volleyball Action

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapid St Mary Cardinals won their third match in a row, and fourth out of their last five, after a hard-fought battle with the Howard Tigers on Tuesday, September 18th in Howard.  The Cardinals won the five-set match by scores of 27-29, 25-23, 14-25, 25-21, 15-13.

Three players finished in double figures in kills led by Cassie Mullaney and Veronica Beck with 16 kills each.  Maddie Schwebach had 13 kills.  Ella Heinitz had 20 set assists, and Paige Bunkers added 10 set assists.

Defensively for St Mary, Schwebach had three blocks and Mullaney added two blocks.  Macie Brown led the team with 23 digs.  Carly Maxwell added 20 digs.

The Cardinals (6-5) will hit the road again on Thursday, September 20th when the travel to Elkton to play the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks.

Cardinal Volleyball Evens Record with Win over Redhawks

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team avenged an early season loss and evened their record with a hard-fought straight set win over the Estelline/Henricks Redhawks on Thursday, September 13th, in Estelline.

The Cardinals had their easiest set in the first set as they cruised to a 25-15 victory.  Both of the next two sets went extra points with the Cardinals winning the second set 26-24 and then winning the third set by a score of 27-25.

Veronica Beck led the offensive attack with nine kills.  Cassie Mullaney and Maddie Schwebach both finished with seven kills each.  Beck and Paige Bunkers both had two ace serves in the match.  Bunkers also led the team with seven set assists.  Beck was also strong at the net defensively with four blocks.  Schwebach and Mullaney both had two blocks each.  Macie Brown and Carley Maxwell were both solid in the back row with 11 and 1o digs respectively.  Bunkers added five digs as well.

St Mary (5-5) will look to win their third match in a row when they travel to Howard on Tuesday, September 18th.

St Mary Volleyball Earns Home Victory

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team won their fourth match of the season with a straight set win over Flandreau Indian School by scores of 25-10, 25-7, 25-4.

Veronica Beck had six kills in the match along with eight ace serves.  Cassie Mullaney added five kills, one dig, and one ace serve.  Maddie Schwebach tallied four kills and five ace serves.  Ella Heinitz had 18 set assists and 18 ace serves in the win.

The Cardinals (4-5) will look to even their record when they travel to Estelline to take on Estelline/Hendricks Redhawks on Thursday, September 13th.

Cardinals Fall to Canistota at Home

DRSM LogoAfter three hard-fought sets, the Canistota Hawks won the match over the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals in the fourth set on Thursday, September 6th at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.  The Hawks won by set scores of 25-21, 26-24, 23-25, 25-9.

Maddie Schwebach led the team with 11 kills on the night.  Veronica Beck had eight kills.  Tyra Harrington and Cassie Mullaney both had five kills each.  Ella Heinitz finished with 30 set assists.  Defensively for St Mary, Carly Maxwell had 14 digs.  Courtney Brown had four digs, and Schwebach had three digs.  Mullaney added three blocks, while Schwebach and Harrington both had two blocks each.  Macie Brown added two ace serves in the match.

The Cardinals (3-5) will host the Flandreau Indian School on Tuesday, September 11th.

Cardinal Volleyball Wins First Home Match of Season

DRSM LogoAfter playing the first week of the season on the road, the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team won their first home match of the season over the Mitchell Christian Golden Eagles on Thursday, August 30th.  The Cardinals won by set scores of 25-20, 26-24, 18-25, 27-25.

Veronica Beck led the team with nine kills.  Cassie Mullaney and Maddie Schwebach both had eight kills each.  Ella Heinitz added three kills.  Heinitz also had 39 set assists in the match.  Carly Maxwell led the defense with 12 digs.  Courtney Brown added seven digs.  Heinitz and Mullaney both had three digs.  Beck also led the team in ace serves with five on the night.

The Cardinals (3-4) will host Canistota on Thursday, September 6th.

Cardinal Volleyball Drops Match in De Smet

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals dropped their match against the De Smet Bulldogs on Tuesday, August 28th in De Smet.  The Bulldogs won in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-18.

Maddie Schwebach and Tyra Harrington both finished the night with seven kills each.  Veronica Beck had four kills.  Cassie Mullaney had three kills, and Ella Heinitz had two kills.  Heinitz added 24 set assists.  Carly Maxwell anchored the defense with 12 digs.  Paige Bunkers finished with four digs and three service aces.

The Cardinals (2-4) will have their first home match of the season on Thursday, August 30th when they host Mitchell Christian.

St Mary Volleyball Places Sixth in Estelline

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team traveled to Estelline for the Estelline Tournament on Saturday, August 25th.  The Cardinals finished sixth in the tournament with a 1-3 record.

The Cardinals split their two matches in pool play to start the tournament.  St Mary earned a three-set win against Wilmot by scores of 21-25, 25-22, 25-22.  The Cardinals then dropped a straight-set match to Estelline/Hendricks by scores of 25-10, 25-21.

With a 1-1 record in pool play, the Cardinals qualified for the silver division in the “division play” round of the tournament.  St Mary lost a three-set match to Waubay/Summit by scores of 25-22, 22-25, 21-25.  They also lost in straight sets to Great Plains Lutheran by scores of 25-18, 25-16.

St Mary (2-3) will travel to De Smet on Tuesday, August 28th for their next match.

Dell Rapids St Mary Holds Fall Sports Banquet

Dell Rapids St Mary High School held a fall sports team awards banquet on Tuesday, November 14th.  A potluck meal was served at 6:00 p.m. for the football, volleyball, competitive cheer, and cross country teams.  During the banquet, several Dell Rapids St Mary athletes earned awards.  Congratulations to all the award winners!
