The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team was held to just 33 points in a 43-33 loss to the Sioux Valley Cossacks on Friday, January 23rd, in Volga. After scoring 11 points in the first quarter, and having an 11-7 lead, Dell Rapids was held to just 10 total points in the second and third quarters. Sioux Valley scored 26 points in that same period of time to take a 33-21 lead at the end of the third quarter on their way to the win.
The Quarriers led by as many as five points with 6:56 to go in the second quarter before the Sioux Valley run. The Cossacks biggest lead came with 1:30 to go in the third quarter when they led by 15 points. The game was tied one time and there were three lead changes.
Dell Rapids shot just 17% (9-51) from the field in the game. They also shot just 19% (4-21) from three-point area, but were 69% (11-16) from the free-throw line. The Quarriers had 35 team rebounds, six assists, two steals, and turned the ball over nine times.
Arial Hoffman had 11 points in the game, all in the first quarter, and two rebounds. Mikaela Stofferahn finished with 10 points and six rebounds. Brittney Siemonsma finished with five points and eight rebounds. Sioux Valley was led by Carley Peterson with 11 points. Kaylee Granum and Carly Granum each had nine points apiece.
The Quarriers fall to 7-5 on the year. Dell Rapids will host Vermillion on Thursday, January 29th. The game will be webcast on Big Sioux Media.
