With :06.5 to go in the game and the Quarriers trailing 50-51, Carson Rentz dribbled the length of the court and took a three-point shot just to the right of the top of the key. The ball traveled through the air as the time ticked off the clock and went through the hoop hitting nothing but net as the clock hit 0:00 to give the Dell Rapids Quarriers a 53-51 win over the St Thomas More Cavaliers on Saturday, February 11th, at the DWU Culver Classic in Mitchell. The win ended a four game skid for the Quarriers.
Dell Rapids led 15-11 after the first quarter, but the Cavaliers cut that lead in half in the second quarter. Dell Rapids took a 25-23 lead into halftime. St Thomas More erased that deficit by outscoring Dell Rapids 17-7 in the third quarter, and the Cavaliers led 40-32 at the end of the third quarter. Dell Rapids then flipped the script and outscored the Cavaliers 21-11 in the final quarter.
Austin Ellingson and Jeffrey Schuch both finished with 10 points in the game for Dell Rapids. Rentz was named the game’s MVP for his nine points and buzzer-beater, game-winning three-point shot.
