The Dell Rapids Quarriers won their third game in a row and their fifth out of six games after defeating the West Central Trojans 62-45 on Tuesday, January 17th, in Dell Rapids. The Quarriers were able to lead from start to finish in the game and never trailed.
Dell Rapids held West Central scoreless for the first 5:30 of the game and jumped out to a 7-0 lead. They maintained the seven point advantage at 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Trojans got the game within two points at 18-16 with 5:00 to go in the second quarter, but Dell Rapids outscored West Central 12-4 over the rest of the quarter to lead 30-20 at halftime. Dell Rapids was able to maintain close to a 10 point lead throughout much of the third quarter, but the Trojans were able to make a little run and cut the lead to five points at 43-38 with just under a minute to play in the third quarter. The Quarriers were able to get the last basket and lead 45-38 at the end of the third. The Quarriers then held West Central to just seven points in the fourth quarter for the victory.
Emma Paul led the team with 23 points. Jayda Knuppe finished with 12 points. Kaylee Hennen added eight points, and Averi Pankonen had six points.
The Quarriers (7-4) travel to Volga to play Sioux Valley on Friday, January 20th.
