The Dell Rapids Quarrier football team put an exclamation point on the 2017 Homecoming celebration with a 35-13 win over the West Central Trojans on Friday, September 15th, at Dell Rapids High School.
The Quarriers scored two times in the first quarter and never looked back for the win. Jeffrey Schuch got the scoring started with a 65-yard pass from Carson Rentz. The second touchdown came on a Josh Heinemann three-yard run to put Dell Rapids ahead 14-0. The Trojans cut the lead in half in the second quarter on a 55-yard run, and Dell Rapids led 14-7 at halftime.
Seth Spielmann gave Dell Rapids their second two-touchdown lead after scoring on a three-yard run. Nick Boever added another score in the third quarter on a 19-yard run to push the Quarrier lead to 28-7. The final West Central touchdown came in the third quarter on a 12-yard run. Alex Kringen caught a 35-yard pass from Rentz in the fourth quarter for the final Quarrier score.
Dell Rapids finished the game with 370 yards of total offense, 106 passing yards and 264 rushing yards. West Central finished with 216 yards of offense, 71 passing yards and 145 rushing yards.
Rentz finished 3-6 passing for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Schuch had one catch for 65 yards and a touchdown. Kringen had one catch for 35 yards for a touchdown, and Mason Schmidt had a catch for six yards. Matt Gillogly led the rushing attack with 10 carries for 89 yards. Spielmann had 16 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown. Boever finished with nine carries for 43 yards and a touchdown. Heinemann had six carries for 42 yards and a touchdown. Defensively for Dell Rapids. Blake Reider, Cole VanDuyn, and Andrew Hegge all had seven tackles in the game. Eddie Price finished with five tackles. Heinemann and Gillogly both had four tackles.
Dell Rapids (3-1) will travel to Tri-Valley on Friday, September 22nd, to take on the Mustangs. That game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
