Jerome “Jerry” Dockstader, 67, of Sioux Falls passed away on Saturday morning in Sioux Falls. His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Hope Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Interment in the Dell Rapids Cemetery will take place before the service. Visitation with family present will take place on Tuesday at Kahler Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Condolences may be left at www.kahlerfh.com.
Jerome (Jerry) Keith Dockstader was born on August 16, 1946 to William and Berdene (Laun) Dockstader in Streator, IL. He grew up in Kimball, SD, where he attended school before joining the navy. After completing a four year tour on the USS Ranger, which included service in the Vietman arena, he was honorably discharged.
On September 25, 1971, he married Deborah Hanthorn in Watertown, SD. The couple moved to Sioux Falls where Jerry worked for Sunshine Foods as a meat cutter until his retirement.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Deborah; his three children, Shannon (Mike) Willard, Jeremiah (Carly) Dockstader, and Gale Dockstader; five grandchildren, Kaiah, Corrine, Riley, and Rayna Willard and Morgan Dockstader; two sisters, Mary Ann Costello and Bonnie (Randy) Schnieders; two sisters-in-law, Janet Dockstader and Mildred Carstensen; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Berdene and two brothers, Dean Dockstader and Darrell Dockstader.
