The Elkton/Lake Benton Elks used a big first half to beat the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls 54-37 on Friday, February 5th, at Elkton. The Elks outscored St Mary 30-9 in the first two quarters of the game. The Cardinals trailed the Elks 38-18 at the end of the third quarter. St Mary was able to get going offensively in the fourth quarter, scoring 19 points….more than the first three quarters combined, but wasn’t enough to surpass Elkton/Lake Benton.
The Cardinals finished the night 36% (13-36) from the field. They shot 43% (3-7) from three-point area and 53% (8-15) from the free-throw line. The Elks were 37% (19-52) from the field in the game. Elkton/Lake Benton out rebounded the Cardinals 36-29 and forced 26 St Mary turnovers.
Jackie Wolles finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Kennedi Mullany also had 10 points along with three rebounds. Lexi Klein added six points and four rebounds, and Cassy Geraets ended the night with five points, four rebounds, and two steals.
St Mary (4-12) will travel to Marion on Monday, January 8th.
