Big Sioux Media is proud to to continue the “Cardinal of the Month” campaign for the 2018-2019 school year! Every month students from Dell Rapids St Mary will be chosen to be recognized as “Cardinals of the Month”. We want to not only recognize the hard work that students put in the classroom with their studies, but also the great things they are doing inside the school and out in the community, such as being positive role models to younger students, lending a helping hand without asking, or community service. Administration and staff will be nominating and selecting students each month. Big Sioux Media will be recognizing those students on our website, presenting them with a certificate, and a 1/2 dozen cupcakes!
If you spot a student exhibiting the qualities listed in the community, and would like to nominate them for Cardinal of the Month, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll send your comments to the appropriate school for the administration to consider them as a nominee!
November Cardinals of the Month
Lexi was nominated because of her strong values, hard work and kindness to others. She enters the classroom with a smile each day. Her work is neatly done, and her best effort shine through the assignments. Friendships are valued, and Lexi is very trustworthy and considerate friend. The Light of God is reflected in the actions shown to others by her. She is polite and courteous to adults and students without the need for reminders. All of these attributes make her a perfect candidate for Cardinal of the Month. We are proud to call her a Cardinal!
Dell Rapids St Mary High School – Nick Wolles (10th): Nick is the only son and youngest child of Tim and Steph Wolles. Nick’s two older sisters Anna (Class of ’14) and Jackie (Class of ’17) are both St. Mary graduates as well. This year Nick will participate in Football, Student Council, Oral Interp, One Act Play, Drama, FFA, and has been on the ‘A’ Honor Roll each semester of high school.
Nick has won Cardinal of the Month before, but this time was unique because Nick was actually nominated by his fellow peers. The teacher who sent in the nomination explained: “This nomination was suggested by a fellow student, who was the recipient of an act of Christian charity. Last week when students got out of school and went to their ice-covered cars, Nick was scraping windshields for multiple Lady Cards.” As the student told the teacher: “He probably did at least six or eight, and I think he should be nominated for Cardinal of the Month.” Somebody who is willing to do something for another person without expecting any recognition or anything in return is exactly the kind of person we want to recognize as Cardinal of the Month, which makes Nick an excellent recipient of the November 7-12 award. Congratulations Nick!
