Big Sioux Media and LaDelle and Fourth Coffeehouse are proud to partner together for the 2017-2018 “Cardinal of the Month” campaign! Every month students from Dell Rapids St Mary will be chosen to be recognized as “Cardinals of the Month”. We want to not only recognize the hard work that students put in the classroom with their studies, but also the great things they are doing inside the school and out in the community, such as being positive role models to younger students, lending a helping hand without asking, or community service. Administration and staff will be nominating and selecting students each month. Big Sioux Media will be recognizing those students on our website, presenting them with a certificate, and LaDelle and Fourth Coffeehouse will be rewarding those students with a 1/2 dozen cupcakes!
If you spot a student exhibiting the qualities listed in the community, and would like to nominate them for Cardinal of the Month, email us at email@example.com. We’ll send your comments to the appropriate school for the administration to consider them as a nominee!
February Cardinals of the Month
Sierra was nominated because she is always willing to help both teachers and students. She is the first one to volunteer, no matter what the task is. She is respectful and hardworking and always has a bright smile to share. She makes good choices and encourages others to do the same. These characteristics as well as her strong faith make Sierra the perfect candidate, and we are proud to call her a Cardinal!
Dell Rapids St Mary High School – Emma Nelson (12th): Emma is the oldest child and only daughter of Scott and Wendy Nelson, who are both graduates of St Mary High School as well. Her younger brother, Gabe, is currently a 7th grader at St Mary.
Emma is an excellent choice as the Cardinal of the Month due to her dedication and motivation to her studies. “Emma is always challenging herself with difficult classes and is always pushing herself to do the best she can in any class she is in,” explained one nominating teacher. Another teacher added, “I’ve always been very impressed with Emma’s work. Whether it’s in school, student council, or an extracurricular, you always see Emma putting her best foot forward.” Emma is a very kind person with generous spirit who is always willing to help out. She’s also a very inquisitive person, as one nominating teacher said, “Emma isn’t someone who just tries to memorize things for a test and forget them. She is constantly looking to make connections to understand things on a deeper level. I’ve always been impressed with her questioning in class, and her desire to understand a topic better.” Emma is an all-around great student and even better young lady, and she is an excellent choice for the St Mary 7-12 Cardinal of the Month for the month of February. Congratulations, Emma, and best of luck in your future!
