The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals strung together 32 straight points over two days to earn a 46-20 win over the Estelline Redmen in football action. The game started on Friday, August 25th, in Estelline but only last seven minutes before the game had to be suspended due to lightning and heavy rain. The Cardinals led 8-0 by that point. The game was resumed at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 26th, and St Mary scored three more touchdowns in the first half to take a 32-0 lead over Estelline. The Redmen got a score late in the second quarter to make the halftime score 32-6.
The Cardinals possessed the ball for most of the third quarter scoring two more touchdowns to take a 46-6 lead into the fourth quarter. Estelline picked up two late touchdowns in the game for the 46-20 final score.
The Cardinals finished with 324 total yards, 287 rushing yards and 37 passing yards. Estelline was held to 185 total yards of offense. Connor Libis finished the game with nine carries for 72 yards and a touchdown. Luke Brown had four carries for 54 yards and a touchdown. Ethan Geraets had seven carries for 38 yards and a touchdown, while Westen Geraets six carries for 39 yards. Tate Hansen tallied four carries for 28 yards and two touchdowns. Brown was 2-5 passing for 37 yards and a touchdown along with three two-point conversions. E. Geraets had two catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. Defensively the Cardinals were led by W. Geraets with eight tackles. Eli Longville had 7.5 tackles and a sack. Libis finished with five tackles, and Logan Wolles had four tackles and a blocked punt.
“The boys played hard this week. Our Offensive and defensive lines really set the tone and did a great job,” said head coach Ross Flemmer.
St Mary will have their first home game of the season on Friday, September 1st, when they host Colman-Egan at Rickeman Field at 7:00 p.m. The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
