The Dell Rapids St. Mary Cardinals pulled off a stellar first round 9B playoff victory over the Waverly\/South Shore Coyotes 52-22 on Tuesday, October 28th, in Dell Rapids.\u00a0 St. Mary scored 44 unanswered points after trailing 14-6 in the middle of the first quarter.<\/p>\n
On the first possession of the game, the Coyotes marched down the field and scored on a touchdown run by Bailey Comes. The big play of that drive was a 20-yard pass on third and 18 to give the Coyotes the opportunity to keep the drive alive. St. Mary came right back and scored on a 7-yard screen pass from Casey Hansen to Christian Schnieders making it 8-8.\u00a0 Each team scored on their second possession. The Coyotes scored on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Joe Jellis to Jacob Boettcher. The Cardinals scored on a 2-yard touchdown run by Schnieders. The difference between the two drives was the 2-point conversions. Waverly\/South Shore failed to convert, while St. Mary was able to punch theirs in for a 16-14 lead.<\/p>\n
The game was all St. Mary\u2019s from that point forward. The Cardinals scored on touchdowns by Josh Brown (19 yards), Jacob Glazier (5 yards), Schnieders (15 yards), Hansen to Wes Heinricy (20 Yards), and capped off by Heinricy (5 yard).\u00a0 St. Mary was 5-7 on 2-point conversions on the night.<\/p>\n
