The Canistota Hawks defeated the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys basketball team 79-45 on Monday, February 9th, at St Mary High School. The game was played as part of a double-header as a make-up game from earlier in the season.
The Hawks started the game on a 15-2 run over the first four minutes. The Cardinals were able to close the gap to 19-10 by the end of the first quarter. St Mary pulled within seven points at 21-14 in the first two minutes of the second quarter, but that was as close as the Cardinals would get. Canistota extended their lead to 33-14 with 3:45 to go in the half after a 12-0 run. The Hawks ended the half ahead 38-18. Canistota scored 41 more points in the second half while holding St Mary to 27.
The Cardinals fall to 0-16 on the year. St Mary looks to pick up their first win of the season in Colman on Thursday, February 12th, as the Cardinals face the Colman/Egan Hawks. The game will be webcast on Big Sioux Media.
