The Dell Rapids Quarriers defeated the Flandreau Indians on Tuesday, November 4th, in the opening round of the Region 3A volleyball tournament held at Dell Rapids. The Quarriers won by scores of 25-11, 25-6, 25-19.
Dell Rapids took an early 3-2 lead in the first game. The Quarriers then went on a 15-1 run to extend their lead to 18-3. The Flandreau Indians outscore Dell Rapids 6-4 to make the score 22-9, but Dell Rapids closed out the first game at 25-11.
The second game was again close very early at 2-1. Dell Rapids then took an 8-2 lead before the Flandreau Indians pulled within four points at 8-4. Dell Rapids then managed to go on a 17-2 run to win the second game.
The third game was back and forth for much of the game. Dell Rapids opened up the third game on a 5-0 run, but the Indians pulled within a point at 5-4. The Quarriers extended the lead to 12-7, but Flandreau Indians were able to tie the game at 13-13. The game was tied at every point up to 19-19. The Quarriers closed out the game on a 6-0 run to win the match.
Dell Rapids improves to 12-16 on the year. The Quarriers will face the Madison Bulldogs in the semifinals on Thursday, November 6th, at Sioux Falls Christian High School.
