The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team lost their first home match of the year to the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 14-25, 19-25, 23-25 on Tuesday, September 2nd.
The first game was back and forth through the first part of the game. With the score tied 10-10, Elk Point-Jefferson went on a 7-3 run, and then closed out the first game on an 8-1 run for the 25-14 win. The Huskies held an early 10-6 lead in the second game, but the Quarriers fought back and scored eight points in a row to take a 14-10 lead. Dell Rapids held a 16-13 lead after both teams traded the next few points. The Huskies tied the game at 16-16, and then again at 18-18. From there Elk Point-Jefferson went on a 7-1 run to win the second game. The Quarries had control of the third game for most of the first half. They held a steady two-to-three point lead. Already leading 13-10, Dell Rapids scored the next four points to extend their lead to 17-10. The Quarriers were able to push the lead even higher to 22-14, looking to win the third game and extend the match, but the Huskies pulled to within a point at 22-21 after scoring seven points in a row. Dell Rapids gained the next point to go ahead by two at 23-21, but it was the Huskies that would score the final four points for the match win.
Sarah Haak finished the match with eight service points and 10 assists. Mara Adams had six kills for the Quarriers, while Tiffany Finkral added five. Bailey Munk led the team defensively with 12 digs on the night. Brittany Kludt finished with two blocks.
The Quarriers fall to 3-2 on the year, and will travel to Hartford to take on the West Central Trojans on Tuesday, September 9th.
JV Results:
The JV team lost to Elk Point-Jefferson two sets to one. The offensive leaders for the Quarriers were Chloe Solberg, Trinity Gordon, Megan Miles, and Tiffanie Dorale. The defensive leaders were Hannah Welbig and Sami Reider.
C-Team Results:
The C-Team won their match against the Huskies two sets to one. The offensive leaders were Kenedy Mergen, Sara Van Regenmorter, and Tiffanie Dorale. Arial Hoffman and Autumn Schumaker led the defense of the Quarriers.
