The Dell Rapids Quarrier football team scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Dakota Valley Panthers and earn a 56-20 win on Friday, September 26th, at Dakota Valley High School.

Dell Rapids scored the first two touchdowns of the game in the first quarter.  Riley Schmidt scored on a 57 yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter to give the Quarriers a 7-0 lead.  Schmidt found the endzone again near the end of the quarter, this time from seven yards, to push the Quarrier lead to 14-0 after the first quarter.

Dakota Valley scored first in the second quarter on a 12-yard pass from Luke Schmitt to Brady Glissman to cut the lead to 14-7.  Dell Rapids answered on another Schmidt touchdown.  His third touchdown came on a 48-yard pass from Jase Nelson, and Dell Rapids led 21-7.  The Panthers closed the game before halftime on a 46-yard pass from Schmitt to Glissman again to make the score 21-13 at halftime.

Keegan Hemenway dove into the endzone at the end of a seven-yard run on the first drive of the second half for Dell Rapids to extend the Quarrier lead to 28-13.  Dakota Valley, however, would pull within one touchdown again as Schmitt found Ethan Klasi in the endzone on an 11-yard pass to make the score 28-20 at the end of the third quarter.

That’s when the Quarrier offense and defense took control of the game.  Tanner Ljunggren scored on a six-yard run to make the score 36-20.  After the Dell Rapids defense forced the Panthers to punt, Schmidt capped off a Dell Rapids drive with his fourth touchdown on a 19-yard run.  Just a mere 20 seconds later, Schmidt scored on a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown to give Dell Rapids a 49-20 lead.  Anthony Miller scored the final touchdown for Dell Rapids on a one-yard run.

Schmidt had 10 carries for 124 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.  Schmidt also had three catches for 83 yards and a receiving touchdown, plus the interception return for a touchdown.  Ljunggren finished the game with 11 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown.  Hemenway had nine carries for 43 yards and a touchdown.  Nelson finished 5-8 passing for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Ben Gillogly led the defense with nine tackles and a sack.  Beau Carpenter had seven tackles in the game.  Ljunggren added six tackles, and Seth Anderson finished with five tackles.
